Linwood Taylor - Guitar and Vocals
“One of Washington’s Leading Blues Guitarists” - Washington Post Magazine
For more than 30 years, Washington native, veteran blues guitarist Linwood Taylor has performed & toured internationally fronting his own band as well as a 2-year stint as guitarist in the Joe Louis Walker Band. Linwood has performed on stage with some of the biggest names in blues: Albert Collins, Lonnie Mack, Eddie Kirkland, and the Blues Brothers (played the Capitol July 4th Concert) to name just a few. Linwood was featured on the cover of Washington Post Magazine in their story highlighting the “Year of the Blues” and over 20 years ago, he was honored in Living Blues Magazine as one of the “Top 40 Under 40” blues guitarists.
Mike Westcott - Guitar and Vocals
"Explosive guitar solos …. With a classic rock feel that sounds familiar, and plenty of twists and turns to keep things fresh ….” - Scott Paddock, Mobtown Music Guide
One of DC’s long-time favorite frontmen, 5-time International Blues Challenge Finalist, and multi-award winning guitarist, Mike grew up in Rockville as a child of passionate working musicians. He spent countless hours spinning 45s and LPs from his parents extensive record collection—Rock, Soul, Country and Jazz and everything in between. Mike began collecting his musical skills like bottle caps, playing drums, piano, saxophone, bass, and guitar while performing simultaneously in jazz band, marching band, concert band, and orchestra. His mother made sure that he had the instruments necessary to continue his musical journey. It was the guitar, however, that stole his heart, and Mike developed his own dynamic and expressive style steeped in the sounds of 60s and 70s guitar royalty.
Sirsy
2pm • $10-$20 suggested donation
“One of most powerful and flexible voices you’ll ever hear. Songs with more hooks than a tackle box.(-Times Union, NY)
SIRSY is a rock, pop, and soul duo from Upstate NY. They write honest songs, full of sing along melodies, with lots of heart and just the right amount of sass. “It’s edgy-feel-good music that’s fun to watch”. (–The Houston Music Blog).
The Boston Globe call SIRSY “the little band with the big sound.” SXSW Music Blog says “SIRSY is NOT simply a two piece, the sound they make is a head scratching, WOW!” SIRSY is fronted by charismatic vocalist/ drummer Melanie Krahmer who has “one of the most powerful and flexible voices you’ll ever hear.” (–Times Union) At live shows, Mel also plays bass on a keyboard with her drumstick & throws in a few mean flute solos too. Guitarist, and Mel’s husband, Rich Libutti plays a road worn and well-loved Rickenbacker guitar through a pedal board full of vintage effects. Live, Rich also plays bass on a pedalboard with his feet. So, these multi-instrumentalists manage to sound like a full band, despite there being just two of them. And somehow, they do it all with big smiles on their faces. It’s clear they love what they do. And that love is contagious when you see them live. You can’t help smiling along with them. Their energetic show often includes stories from the road, laughter, dance parties, and even Rich’s nerdy Star Wars jokes.
“Edgy-feel-good” and fun to watch…”(-Houston Music Blog, TX)

Human Country Jukebox
9pm • $10 • Tickets on Eventbrite and at the door if available
Human Country Jukebox, created by singer-songwriter, guitar-picker Jack Gregori, has its roots in rabble-rousing outlaw country bands from the good old days in the deep South. HCJ claims no hometown – “No town can hold me,” Jack insists with a slight wink – but you’ll swear this band comes straight outta North Texas.
Front man Jack Gregori grew up singing and playing whatever musical instruments were around him. “I got hooked when I was a kid in the 80’s and watched The Blues Brothers movie. That opened it up for me and I haven’t stopped since.” Eventually, Jack started performing at open mic nights. By 2010, he had picked up some local musicians, beginning the evolution into the Human Country Jukebox band. Since then, the band has performed well over a hundred times, mainly in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area.
The name Human Country Jukebox actually refers to Jack himself. He’s memorized more than 200 country-western hits. Shout out the name of any song at one of their shows, and you’ll discover that HCJ can wing anything.
Taking requests and interacting with the audience is a signature of every HCJ performance. Audiences can expect a different show every time, filled with creative improvisations and reinterpretations of classic country tunes. Just don’t yell out “Sweet Home Alabama.”

The Shambles • Hard-Core Troubadours
The Shambles No band was more aptly named than The Shambles. They pretty much were always in that state. They rocked hard and most of their gigs way back when were in Baltimore. The Shambles are Russ Beeker and David Goodfriend from Goin Goin Gone, Tommy Hannigan, Clark Matthews and Pete Kanaras who quit some band named The Nighthawks to play with them. It's District rock n' roll with The Shambles!
Hard-Core Troubadours At the turn of the century there was a roots rockin’ DC area band called the Hard-Core Troubadours. Now they’re back doing shows and adding some new material too!

Wyatt Easterling
8:00pm • $20 suggested donation • All Seated Show
Wyatt Easterling’s decades of success in the music industry includes a myriad of roles from performer to songwriter, and as an executive of both a major record label and publishing company. This wealth of experience and accompanying success in all these varying facets of the industry, give him a unique and valuable understanding of the music business.
When Atlantic Records opened their Nashville office, Easterling signed on as Chief of A&R, and started his track record of success by signing artists such as Tracy Lawrence, Michael Johnson, Neal McCoy, and John Michael Montgomery.
Easterling along with Doug Johnson, produced Montgomery's multi-platinum debut album, Life’s A Dance.
Wyatt then partnered with Miles Copeland (Sting, The Police, IRS Records) and formed the Nashville Division of Bugle Publishing Group and Firstars Management as Director of Operations. Easterling brought Keith Urban to Firstars Management and worked at length with Urban in the studio recording the project that landed Keith his first major deal at Warner Bros. Records.
In addition to ushering notable artists into the mainstream, Easterling and Copeland created Bugle Publishing Group’s The Castle, the first of its kind songwriter's retreat held yearly at Miles Copeland’s Chateau Marouatte in France. This event saw great success with a long list of esteemed artists and writers such as Keith Urban, Cher, Carole King, Jon Bon Jovi, Peter Frampton, Olivia Newton-John, and
Stuart Copeland, to name a few.
Wyatt then signed alternative roots artist Paul Thorn into the company for management and publishing. Easterling produced Paul's album, Hammer & Nail along with Greg Wells and Billy Maddox for A&M Records, Los Angeles.
After Bugle Publishing, Easterling decided it was time to get back to songwriting and promptly signed with DreamWorks Publishing. Eventually Wyatt opened Terra Nova Music, his own publishing company in Nashville, which had eight writers on staff.
Wyatt’s songwriting success includes “Modern Day Drifter” (Dierks Bentley),
“Life’s So Funny” (Joe Diffie), “This Time I’m Taking My Time” (Neal McCoy).
Wyatt will release his 5th album, mid-2022, titled From Where I Stand.

The Grandsons bring with them a pawn shop of instruments. Vocalist-guitarist-trumpeter Alan MacEwen charms audiences with his sly wit and winsome original songs. DC blues veteran Matthew Sedgley locks in the groove on drums and percussion. Saxophonist Chris Watling puts out a sound so meaty and memorable that he is in demand all over as a guest artist and session player. Moe Nelson holds down the low end on upright bass but has been known to break out the ukulele. Join The Grandsons as they move and shake into their 3rd decade in the world of rock and roll!

McKinley James with Mark Wenner
8:00pm • $20 Tickets on Eventbrite and at the door, if still available
McKinley James is equal parts old soul and modern man. Armed with an electric guitar and sharp songwriting chops, he breathes new life into classic sounds with Working Class Blues, a debut album that introduces his mix of American rock & roll, amplified soul, and raw rhythm & blues.
It's a sound powered by groove and guitar. A sound that's been sharpened by countless shows — from dive bar residences in Nashville to headlining gigs across Europe — and rooted in the shared bloodline of McKinley and his longtime bandmate: father Jason Smay. Together, they rewrite the rulebook for blues-inspired rock duos, creating a lean, honest version of American roots music that makes room for everything from Motown hooks to roadhouse boogie-woogie.
"We're not trying to sound old-school," says McKinley, who grew up watching his father play drums for acts like Los Straitjackets and JD McPherson. "We love traditional blues and soul, but this isn't a retro act. The topics, themes, and songs are always fresh."
To capture those songs as genuinely as possible, McKinley and Jason spent a three-day weekend in the home studio they'd constructed inside their family barn, recording a series of live performances with analog gear and minimal microphones. Jason played a vintage Ludwig drum set from 1970. McKinley played a vintage '54 Stratocaster through a Peavey Pacer. Without headphones or any studio gimmicks, the two performed together in real time, locking into the swaggering shuffle of songs like "Movin'" and "Call Me Lonesome," the singalong melodies of "Always On My Mind," and the bare-boned blues of "Get To My Baby."
"We'd already been playing those songs live," McKinley explains, "so it felt easy to just hit record and do what we always do at our shows. When your band is only two people, there's no hiding. It keeps you honest, and that was the goal with this album, too — to be as honest as possible about who we are and what we do."
That goal began taking shape in upstate New York, where McKinley was raised in a household filled with music. Inspired by everything from Stax to disco to '80s R&B, he became a guitar prodigy at a young age. "I showed him an old video of Booker T. & the M.G.'s playing Norway in 1967," Jason remembers, "and McKinley saw Steve Cropper totally ripping it and thought, 'Ok, that's what I want to do, too.' He must've been 10 years old." McKinley quickly learned not only to play guitar, but to sing and write his own material, too. Along the way, Jason pushed him to expand his horizons.
"Dad always said, 'If you play guitar but don't sing, it will limit you,'" McKinley says. "Learning to sing helped me get into songwriting, and Dad pushed me there, too. He thought it was cool that I liked this older style of music, but I needed to make it my own. You've gotta write songs about who you are. You've gotta live it; otherwise, it just becomes an act."
By the time McKinley relocated to Nashville as a teenager in 2017, he'd already appeared on the cover of Eric Church's platinum-selling album Mr. Misunderstood and kickstarted his performance career. He even missed his own high-school graduation for a gig. During the years that followed, he introduced himself to international audiences by hitting the road — where he initially performed as a trio, backed by Jason and a Hammond organist — and releasing a handful of recordings. 2021's critically-acclaimed Still Standing By found him working alongside producer Dan Auerbach of the Grammy-winning band The Black Keys, while 2022's LIVE! captured McKinley and company onstage, tearing their way through songs like "Love Can Make a Fool" for a full house. When the band's B3 player left the lineup in November 2022, McKinley and Jason moved ahead as a duo — a move that highlights the family chemistry and charisma at the beating heart of Working Class Blues.
This isn't a boxed-in version of the blues. It's an eclectic mix of American music, featuring songs co-written with Auerbach, Pat McLaughlin, and Dylan Altman. McKinley sings about universal struggles — heartbreak, frustration, love, infatuation — with the voice of a 20something adult who's been cutting his teeth onstage since childhood. Like its creator, Working Class Blues exists somewhere out of time, blending the contemporary with the classic, erasing the lines between genre and generation. It's something fresh, created out of something familiar. And for McKinley James, it's just the beginning.
The Nighthawks was an idea in Mark Wenner's brain long before he was able to implement it. The musical product of pre-1958 radio in Washington, D.C., he did not know there were rules against mixing blues, R&B, honky-tonk country, doo-wop, gospel and rockabilly into one delicious stew.
In 1972, Mark, then 23, returned to his hometown after a New York City band apprenticeship eager to start a real, work-every-night band based on American roots music. He found a receptive local scene. Washington has long been a musical melting-pot of the kind that made Memphis the source point for the evolution of American music in the second half of the 20th century. It just never had a Stax or Sun record label to tell the world. As the city exploded with an influx of people from all the surrounding states during the Great Depression and World War II, Washington became a hotbed of musical cross-fertilization. When Bill Haley first brought his wacky Pennsylvania mix of hillbilly music and rhythm and blues to D.C. in 1952, people got it. And white kids like Mark found the Howard Theater – now recently restored and part of the historic top tier of the Chitlin' Circuit that included Baltimore’s Royal, Chicago’s Regal and New York’s Apollo – just a 25-cent bus ride away from the suburbs.

Patsy Stephens and The Hall Brothers, as Patsy’s Honky Tonk Torch & Twang, perform classic country and honky tonk music in the Baltimore/Washington and surrounding area. They mix it up with some other styles thrown in for good measure…a little Western swing, some rockabilly, 50s/60s rock ‘n’ roll, a few jazz standards, and plenty of Patsy Cline! “We have it all…a little torch…a little twang!”
Patsy’s Honky Tonk Torch & Twang was nominated by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) for a 2014 Wammie for Best Country Band, and our own Chick Hall, Jr. won yet another Wammie for Best Country Instrumentalist for 2014. We were also nominated in 2015 for: Best Country Vocalist (Patsy), Best Country Band, and Best Country Instrumentalist (Chick).
Patsy’s band: The fabulous Hall Brothers…WAMA award winner Chick Hall Jr. and Chris Hall, come from a musical background…their father, Chick Hall Sr., owned and operated Chick Hall’s Surf Club in Hyattsville, Maryland. They grew up playing music in a honky tonk! You can’t get more real than that. Chick Hall, Jr. has won numerous Wammie awards for his stellar guitar playing, and has played guitar on tour for some famous singers and musicians - Ronnie Dove, Johnny Lee, Lori Morgan and Ace Cannon! We have Tommy Auldridge on pedal steel. Tommy also came from a musical family. (Tommy’s brother, the late Mike Auldridge, played Dobro for the Seldom Scene.) And, keeping the beat on drums is Mike Toole. All excellent musicians!
Featuring Sarah Bonner, Caroline Alderson and rhythm guitarist/baritone singer Steve Devoney, recreate the vintage sound of the great 50s-60s sister, brother and boy-girl harmony groups. Along with classic country acts like the Davis Sisters and the Browns, they revive swinging sister trios from the Fontane Sisters, doo wop gems, and pop harmony hits from the Chordettes, Fleetwoods and Everlys.

Corey Arceneaux & the Zydeco Hot Peppers
6:00pm • $20 • tickets on Eventbrite and at the door if available
Corey Arceneaux and the Zydeco Hot Peppers
Corey Arceneaux is a Louisiana born and bred zydeco accordionist and band leader. He learned the accordion at a young age and formed his first band while still in high school. His great-uncles, musicians Rodney Bernard and the legendary Fernest Arceneaux, were his inspirations. As he found his style, Clifton Chenier and Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, Jr. became his favorites, and Buckwheat also became a mentor and friend.
Corey and the Zydeco Hot Peppers perform internationally and domestically – wowing dignitaries and crowds at special events, festivals, clubs and Mardi Gras balls through the years. They also recorded five studio albums. Simultaneously, Corey has been a radio DJ for about 30 years, which has allowed him to promote Zydeco and the Creole culture of Southwest Louisiana to a larger audience. Currently, he hosts “Hot Sauce Saturday” on KFXZ/Z105.9 FM/www.z1059.com on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central time.
After moving to Virginia, Corey connected with area musicians with experience in and a passion for Zydeco music. They jammed, and everything came together like a pot of gumbo. The talented Zydeco Hot Peppers are Ben Holmes (drummer), Doug Bell (guitar), Gene Monroe (bass) and Pat Clark (scubboard/frottoir).
Ben Holmes started playing Zydeco in the 1980s. He’s toured and recorded with Al Rapone and the Zydeco Express and the Grammy-winning Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Zydeco band. He’s taken Zydeco on the road from Australia to Africa. Ben plays various genres, but he has a genuine love for Louisiana music styles.Since 1995, Ben has played with DC favorites, such as The Hula Monsters, King Soul, Zydeco Crayz, Savoir Faire Cajun Band, The Canecutters, Canebrake Cajun Band and The Longtimers.
Doug Bell is a veteran musician in the DC area and has performed across the eastern U.S. for nearly 25 years. He has played in bands such as Zydeco Crayz, The Louisiana Sugar Kings, Charlie Sayles and Union Mission Blues, Savoir Faire Cajun Band and Canebreak Cajun Band. His passion is for authentic southern American roots music, especially the dance styles of south Louisiana.
Gene Monroe comes from a musical family and has been a working bassist for the past 30 years. He has performed with artists such as Billy Thompson, King Soul, The Grandsons, Skyla Burrell, Daryl Davis, Shrimp City Slim, Little Bit A’ Blues, Mike Westcott, J.B. Beverley, Deane Kern and Hard Swimming Fish, to name just a few. He has played well-known clubs and festivals both in the DC region and up and down the Atlantic Coast, Memphis, Chicago, San Diego and Japan.
Pat Clark is a professional drummer, guitarist, and private music teacher from Silver Spring, Maryland. As a kid, he went to New Orleans, Louisiana every year for Jazz Fest so Zydeco is in his bones. Pat has been influenced from artists such as Taylor Swift, Dashboard Confessional, Stanton Moore and Los Lobos.

Ring in the New Year with The Highballers! @Hank Dietle's Tavern
9pm • $20 • Tickets on Eventbrite and at the door if still available
Known for the marble facades, majestic domes and white mansions comprising its landmarks, Washington, DC is nonetheless a gritty, hardscrabble city built on a hot marshland and swamped in confrontational politics. Like their home turf, the Highballers are as sharp dressed as any modern country act -- but go down more like Jim Beam than the Diet Pepsi flowing through today’s tame, corporate country scene. In the tradition of outlaws like Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, not to mention mystics like Gram Parsons and the Knitters, the Highballers spin a web of country gold rooted in the diverse backgrounds of their members and the free-spirited abandon of the fiercest gunslinger in the Wild West. The Highballers were born on the rock of guitarist/vocalist Kendall Jackson and vocalist Hope Hudson in 2007, forging a hard-edged, rockin’ country sound built on the duo’s male-female vocal harmonies. After several personnel shifts, myriad gigs and more than a few empty whiskey bottles, the band arrived at its current lineup of Jackson, vocalist Belen Pifel, guitarist Sean Lally, bassist Charlie Henry and drummer Drake Sorey.

Time in the Wilderness
5:30pm • No Cover • Happy Hour 4-8
Captivates audiences with original, engaging instrumental grooves that transport listeners into uncharted musical territories. The quintet skillfully blends soundscapes and improvisational elements to explore themes of hope and discovery, seamlessly weaving together various genres through intricate rhythms.
Drummers (Brad Samuels and Paul Aquilino) craft a unified pocket of polyrhythms, starting a topic with bass player (Mike Landis) on both 4-string and 6-string tic-tac bass, juicing the hook. Themes are cultivated, nurtured and destroyed on meandering planes established by guitar, synth and other sonic devices (Andre Radloff). Soaring and catchy, masterful trumpet (Ralph Burrows) transports us to other spheres.

Charlie Bryant
5:30pm • Happy Hour Prices! • NO COVER!
Sings and plays mid-century modern singer-songwriter music. What’s that? Don’t ask him; he made it up.
Charlie writes (and covers) songs about love, loss, hope, bewilderment, wistful longing, busted romance, modern technology, existential dread, and (of course) drinking.
If country music is three chords and the truth, then what Charlie’s after is four chords and the ambiguity. And you can't spell ambiguity without Am.

The VI-Kings - “Live @Hank Dietle’s”
Richard Green & Scott Mattern
5:30pm • NO COVER! • Happy Hour 4-8
Richard Green “executing” classic blues songs and delivering rambling, inappropriate commentary.
Green has infested the East Coast blues scene for nearly five decades. He gained notoriety in the mid-70s as leader of the Charlottesville Allstars, cited by Rolling Stone as “just about the best blues band in the Southeast.” RS made particular note of Green’s reading of Muddy Waters’
“Forty Days and Forty Nights” as “an expression of desolation imbued with Biblical wrath.”
Green and Allstars colleague Doug Jay went on to form DC’s Choirboys (along with Dietle’s jefe Thomas Bowes), running through the mid-90s, until the need to feed a growing family propelled him through a series of “soul-sucking big-boy jobs.” He continued to work sporadically as a sideman, briefly resurfaced in the early 2000s in the House of Beauty, along with Bowes, Louie Newmyer, and Jim Steele, and led the Allstars through a series of reunions from 2006-2018.
Decades of noise exposure gradually eroded Green’s hearing to the point where, in 2018, he decided that he could no longer reliably perform with bands.
When the pandemic hit, Green began livestreaming solo sets and now has reemerged, cicada-like, to once again inflict desolation and biblical wrath on an unsuspecting public.
Scott Mattern DC-area native Scott Mattern is a blues and jazz guitarist who has been playing local clubs and concerts since the mid-1970s. Scott is known for his remarkable range, easily toggling between raw blues, jump swing, and classic jazz styles. He has played and recorded with Chris Polk, Ursula Ricks, the Moonlighters, Steve Potter, Flatfoot Sam and the Educated Fools, Fast Eddie and the Slowpokes and many others, and has toured with guitarist/vocalist Deborah Coleman throughout the United States and Europe. Currently he is a member of the blues/rock band Exit 10 and performs in duo with guitarist/vocalist Richard Green
