Col Josh and Paisley Tonk & The Highballers

9:00pm • $10 Cover

Colonel Josh aka Josh Arnson grew up in Bethesda, MD. He got the nickname “Colonel” from his bandmates in the Asylum Street Spankers of Austin, Texas in the mid 1990’s because he would show up to gigs in a seersucker suit and clip-on string tie…they teased him that he looked like Colonel Sanders.  He kinda does.

Pre-Colonel, Josh was rockin’ in the D.C. music scene in the late 1970’s and the 1980’s with Maddog, The Caves, The Golden Bats and his brother Dave’s band Insect Surfers. After sojourning in Pittsburgh, New York City, Austin, and Los Angeles Colonel Josh came home to roost.

Playing around his hometown for the last 10 years now, Colonel Josh has gathered an A List of long time D.C. musicians to make the new sound, “Paisley Tonk”, a mix of old school country/rockabilly with pop psychedelic sounds.

Paisley Tonk includes Karl Straub on lead guitar, Les Doerfler on bass and harmonies, and “Alex on drums” DeSeabra on drums.

"The Highballers bring one of the most energetic live performances of any band in the area...For all the District dwellers, you shouldn’t shudder at the thought of going Clarendon in the dead of winter-the trip will be well-worth the hike. As the official show poster says, “This ain’t your mama’s country music.”"

“Shiny stuff, short leather skirts, high-heeled shit-kickers, science, and real country music.”
