The HalFSmokes and Frank Muffin

Rockin’ the Suburbs is a podcast dedicated to exploring all forms of rock and pop music, from the perspective of two music-crazed suburbanites, Jim Lenahan and Patrick Foster. Each year they host SUBURBS FEST in--where else?--the suburbs. This year features local favorites The HalFSmokes, performing songs from the glory days of WHFS, and Indiana's Frank Muffin, known for their vocal harmonies and acoustic-driven alternative rock, at Hank Dietle's Tavern.

The HalFSmokes perform favorites from the WHFS playlists of the radio station’s glory days—the late ‘70s to early ‘90s. Combining melodic pop with rootsy rock, their inspired performances of these eclectic classics will remind of happier times!

Featuring award-winning and longtime favorite DC musicians Billy Coulter, Bill Williams, Arch Alcantara and Rich Nagel.

Best known for their vocal harmonies, Frank Muffin and their alternative rock sound is busting out of their hometown from Lafayette, IN. Their music is driven from a strong footing of acoustic guitar that develops with blended electric guitar layers and sometimes synth/keys additions, strings, and flute. With all members as multi-instrumentalists, they encompass a vast range in genre that gives a pleasing little something for everyone. Muffin originals land somewhere among alt-rock, new wave, Americana, punk, and alternative pop. Influenced by the community, culture, and sounds of their hometown, they perform music that speaks to fans across the musical spectrum. Their signature style has become synonymous with a diverse collection of melodies and compositions.
