Karen Collins CD Release

5:00pm - 7:30pm • $10 cover

Karen Collins & The Backroads Band are excited to announce the release of their 3rd CD, "Daddy Can I Use the Car,” which features six of Karen’s best new songs.  Come help the band celebrate the CD’s release at Dietle’s on Saturday, June 24. And be sure to bring your dancing shoes!

The Backroads Band specializes in honky tonk country music from artists like Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, and Buck Owens, alongside Karen’s classic-sounding originals, with hints of rockabilly and western swing. For two decades Karen and the band have been doing their part to keep vintage country and other roots-based music alive in the DC area.

Led by Karen Collins on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, the Backroads Band features Ira Gitlin on twangy lead guitar and Pat Puglisi singing and laying down the beat on drums, anchored by James Key’s woody thumping on the upright bass. Local pedal-steel hero Lynn Kasdorf (Hula Monsters, Oklahoma Twisters) will sit in as a guest artist for this show.

Quotes from previous CD reviews:

"For the country fan, Tail Light Blues is a cut above even what is called roots music these days. Karen Collins is an authentic country voice in the style of Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette, and her band can rock like Sun Records, with virtuoso picker Ira Gitlin nailing notes all over the place." (The Muse’s Muse)

“First thing you notice about Collins is … her delivery - pure, authentic honky tonk.  A gen-u-ine Virginia coalminer's daughter, Collins fronts a Washington, DC, band, featuring spot on guitarist Ira Gitlin, that plays classic country, as Don Walser used to say, ‘Top 40 hits - from 40 years ago,’ but Collins also writes material that fits right in” (3rd Coast Music)
