DC Bluegrass Union Songwriter Showcase
Host: Shannon Leigh Reynolds
Come join DCBU for the first in our songwriter's rounds series at Hank Dietle's Tavern. In January, we'll be featuring some of the area's best - Dave Zelonka, Seth Mitchell, and Gage Rhodes! Join us these excellent musicians trade songs and stories.
Dave Zelonka is a singer, songwriter, and guitar picker hailing from central Maryland. His sound is heavily influenced by bluegrass traditions, infused with the spirit of the punk rock he grew up on. Dave’s songs feature lyrics steeped in thoughtful storytelling and rich imagery, harmonies inspired by The Stanley Brothers, and intricate yet melodic guitar breaks. Having previously released albums with The Warren G. Hardings and Ampersand Stringband (winner of Charm City Bluegrass Festival’s 2016 Battle of the Bands), he is excited to share Something, a solo album of all-new original tunes, with the world.
Seth Mitchell is a bluegrass & Americana multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and band leader. His original songs reveal both a distinctive knack for tuneful explorations on many themes and deep roots in the singer-songwriter tradition. In 2024, he released his third album of original songs, Glen Burnie Man. Seth performs across the Mid-Atlantic region, including regular appearances with the Seth Mitchell Band — a fou- piece bluegrass ensemble — and as a sideman on guitar, bass, mandolin, or as a utility player for numerous friends and collaborators.
Gage Rhodes is an indie folk singer-songwriter from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Gage and his band, The Rural Depression, do not mind talking about the funny, dark, strange paths we find ourselves on. Influenced by a lifetime of strangeness, trouble, and eclectic music tastes, Gage Rhodes and The Rural Depression try to make honest songs for their listeners to enjoy.
Dave, Seth, and Gage are joined by DCBU's Shannon Leigh Reynolds. Shannon released her debut album Triple Shot in 2023 to favorable reviews from Bluegrass Today and Bluegrass Unlimited magazines. Her album charted at #4 on FAI’s best album chart for September 2023 and won a Wammie for Best Folk/Bluegrass Album Award in 2024. She fronts her own band, Shannon Leigh and The Good Bygones and can be seen all around the DC area.
