Since Danny’s father, Bob Paisley (founder of Southern Grass), passed away in 2004, Danny Paisley and The Southern Grass have made their niche in the bluegrass world, producing consecutive chart-topping albums. The group has been given over 20 Bluegrass Music Award Nominations and won the 2009 IBMA Song of the Year for Don’t Throw Mama’s Flowers Away. In 2024, Danny Paisley joined an elite group of vocalists to be awarded the IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year for the fourth time - an achievement bestowed only to three others in the history of Bluegrass music.
With Danny Paisley on guitar, Southern Grass continues the family tradition by adding Danny’s son Ryan on mandolin, the next generation of up-and-coming pickers. Southern Grass continues the rich musical heritage started by Bob Paisley and Ted Lundy with Lundy’s sons T.J. (Fiddle) and Bobby (Bass and Vocals). T.J. Lundy is a highly respected fiddler bridging the gap between old-time fiddling and bluegrass music. Bobby Lundy is also a renowned multi-instrumentalist who has gained attention for his unique bass style. Southern Grass also includes Dean Phillips on banjo.
Danny Paisley, born in Landenberg, PA, in 1959, grew up listening to the music his father Bob played and enjoyed hearing the sounds of classic bluegrass like Red Allen, Mac Martin, Bill Monroe, the Stanleys, Reno and Smiley, and the Osbornes. In addition to old-time mountain music and traditional country music. Once you hear Danny sing, it is no surprise that he lists George Jones and Vern Gosdin as major influences in his singing.
Danny Paisley and The Southern Grass continue to carry on a legacy set forth over six decades ago, gathering fans at each event; Danny Paisley and The Southern Grass look forward with renewed energy as they bring their unique sound to audiences near and far.

Munford & Cohen
5:30pm • No Cover • Happy Hour ‘til 8pm
They don’t just play classic rock. They are classic rock. In the Summer of Love, 1967, Munford sang the million-selling psychedelic record "Incense and Peppermints" by the Strawberry Alarm Clock (who toured with the Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield and the Who among others). But while they play the fun, familiar songs of the Stones, the Meters, the Ronettes and others, Munford and Cohen is no cover band. With a guitar, a bass, 2 voices and a rhythm machine of loops, delays and programmed drums they breathe new life into old (and some current and original) tunes with a fresh sound that favors deep grooves over high volume for a new take on an old school vibe. Call it fresh classic rock.

Corey Arceneaux and the Zydeco Hot Peppers
Corey Arceneaux is a Louisiana born and bred zydeco accordionist and band leader. He learned the accordion at a young age and formed his first band while still in high school. His great-uncles, musicians Rodney Bernard and the legendary Fernest Arceneaux, were his inspirations. As he found his style, Clifton Chenier and Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, Jr. became his favorites, and Buckwheat also became a mentor and friend.
Corey and the Zydeco Hot Peppers perform internationally and domestically – wowing dignitaries and crowds at special events, festivals, clubs and Mardi Gras balls through the years. They also recorded five studio albums. Simultaneously, Corey has been a radio DJ for about 30 years, which has allowed him to promote Zydeco and the Creole culture of Southwest Louisiana to a larger audience. Currently, he hosts “Hot Sauce Saturday” on KFXZ/Z105.9 FM/www.z1059.com on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central time.

Pat Clark is a professional drummer, guitarist, and private music teacher from Silver Spring, Maryland. As a kid, he went to New Orleans, Louisiana every year for Jazz Fest so Zydeco is in his bones. Mary Battiata & Little Pink
6PM • $10 Tickets on Eventbrite and at the door if still available
is a singer-songwriter and alt-Country bandleader who plays and tours from home base in Northern Virginia, outside Washington, DC.
Mary was raised in the Maryland suburbs outside Washington DC, when local radio was still playing hours of classic Country and vintage Bluegrass every day (thank you Eddie Stubbs!) She was singing and playing acoustic guitar by high school, and began writing songs in the mid-1990s, after returning from several years as a foreign correspondent (in East Africa and Eastern Europe). She formed her first alt-Country band in 1997, inspired by the songwriters – local and touring – that she saw at her neighborhood music venue, the newly hatched IOTA club, where she played, too. In 1999, she formed Little Pink, a capable and fluid lineup of top-tier players drawn from the DC and Baltimore Roots and Country scenes. The band’s name, and its sound, were inspired by The Band recording, Music From Big Pink.

Miss Tess • KC Jones • Thomas Bryan Eaton
Allumé is a powerhouse collaboration uniting Nashville’s Miss Tess and Thomas Bryan Eaton with Lafayette, Louisiana’s K.C. Jones (Feufollet, The Daiquiri Queens) and Trey Boudreaux (The Revelers). This Cajun-country-cozy supergroup weaves together rich harmonies, pedal steel, fiddle, bass, and stripped-down drums for a sound that’s both rootsy and dynamic. This new band—like Miss Tess’s latest album, Cher Rêve (out Feb 7, 2025)—is born from a deep admiration for the culturally rich Acadiana region of South Louisiana, particularly the vibrant city of Lafayette. Known as the “Little Easier,” Lafayette is a magnetic hub where community, tradition, and music thrive. Cajun and Creole melodies fill the air, dancers move across hardwood floors, and generations carry on time-honored traditions of language and cuisine. For the last several years, he has won the Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMIES) for 'Musician of the Year', 'Rock Instrumentalist of the Year', and 'Roots Rock Instrumentalist of the Year'.
• Anthony Pirog Excerpt from Guitar.com article: “Anthony Pirog’s work is otherworldly – feverish in its delivery and interstellar in its complexity – but his feet have long been planted on the ground in Washington DC. When he was a kid he soaked up the city’s music, studying Danny Gatton and blues transplant Roy Buchanan while grunge giants raged in the long twilight of the revolution summer.
But what’s the most DC thing a DC musician can do? Well, they could start a band with members of Fugazi and put out records on legendary DC punk-indie label Dischord. That would do it.
The resulting band, The Messthetics, are a freewheeling power-trio orbiting Pirog’s pyrotechnic guitars and the rhythm section of bassist Joe Lally and drummer Brendan Canty, who proved themselves two of the best to ever do it across six LPs with the post-hardcore giants.”

During high school and college, Mike was a member of the Capital Focus Jazz Band, a youth-oriented traditional group who he toured with through England, Scotland, and the Netherlands as well as playing many shows domestically. Traditional music has been a common theme for him over the years and has led him more recently to bluegrass. Today, he's a member of 2024 WAMMIE award winners, Pictrola, playing more progressive and jam-laden styles of bluegrass and appearing onstage for audiences at Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Watermelon Pickers' Fest, and other venues local and distant. Outside of bluegrass, Mike is also a member of the touring original heartland rock band, Brian K and the Parkway, playing lead guitar.
DCBU's President, Carolyn Eyerly, will be hosting this month. Carolyn performs Bluegrass originals and covers as well as grassed-up classic rock & country tunes much like Merle & Loretta. Carolyn was awarded the 2022 WAMMIE for the D.C. area's Best Bluegrass Artist when she released her CD, The Sunny Side of Life, on the Patuxent Music label. Produced by Dede Wyland, Carolyn’s CD project includes seven of her original compositions. Carolyn has been a dynamic lead singer in the Washington, D.C. area since 2011 in folk & bluegrass bands. Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys
Since forming in 1988 in Southern California, Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys have become one of the world’s most beloved Americana/Roots acts, drawing from the deep musical waters that flow just beneath the surface of Rock & Roll’s fertile soil. A childhood passion for Country, Doo-Wop, and Rhythm & Blues 45s led Sandy (born Robert Williams) to pursue a singing career as a teenager, beginning a life in music that continues decades later. And as his personal record collection continues to grow (75,000 and counting), so does the depth of the musical influences that stream through his songwriting and singing style. A critically acclaimed tribute to Tex-Mex hero Freddy Fender, released at the beginning of the 2020 lockdown, points the way forward for Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys as they continue on a path of musical growth. After nearly 35 years on the road, and more than two dozen releases to their credit, they remain key figures on the ever-changing Americana circuit, both on record and in live appearances.
