A little more about our songwriters this month:

"Folkgrass for the Critical Thinker." Kevin Neidig, a native of Mechanicsburg, PA, is an award-winning Americana singer/songwriter/composer/multi-instrumentalist, including 2024’s IBMA Flatpicking Champion, 2024 SAW’s Best Bluegrass/Country song, 2023’s Best Americana Artist CPHOF's Award, and other awards for banjo and vocals, whose sound mixes elements of Darrell Scott, Tim O'Brien, Bela Fleck, and other similar artists with a sprinkling of metal and jazz. His latest album, “Kevin Neidig & Henry Koretzky with Aaron Blouin," can be found on his website, www.kevinneidig.com. Kevin also teaches a wide range of instruments online through Zoom, hosts a monthly live online guitar warm-up class called GWUP, has published music books on Amazon, has an online guitar course on Soundslice called "Riff Monkey," and recently released his "GWUP Essentials" book and audio course. He delivers impeccably crafted, hand-hewn tunes—a perfect turn of word here, transforming melodies there—lush, tuneful journeys not to be missed. kevinneidig.comacousticwisdom.com

Karen Collins grew up in the mountains of Southwest Virginia in a coal mining community where she spent a lot of time listening to country music on the radio and singing in the local Baptist Church. The echoes of those early country sounds stand out in her singing and her song writing. Her songs are written and delivered in that classic country style on topics ranging from love and heartbreak to being stuck in traffic. Karen is lead singer with the honky-tonk country band, The Backroads Band and the Cajun/Zydeco band, Squeeze Bayou. She also sings in an acoustic country quartet and plays as a duo with her guitar play, Ira Gitlin. She has won multiple Wammies (Washington Area Music Awards) for “Country Vocalist”, “Country Duo/Group” (for the Backroads Band) and “Country Recording”. Karen and the Backroads Band have recorded three CDs of her original music, the most recent release (2023), "Daddy Can I Use The Car".

Noah Teague Booz hails from Montgomery County, MD. His musical journey began in his single digits with piano lessons, later transitioning to the guitar at the age of 12 to play in a band with friends. Noah's folk-rock trio, Honey Stone, won a DMV-wide battle of the bands at the 9:30 Club during his senior year of high school. Noah went on to study jazz in college; after graduating, he stepped away from the music industry, still continuing to work on his craft. In 2021, Noah launched his first solo project under the moniker "yesah" while living in L.A., but returned to Maryland in 2022 and rebranded under his given name, Noah Teague Booz. Drawing from influences ranging from folk and jazz to blues and bluegrass, Noah's music embodies a captivating blend of singer-songwriter composition with virtuosic improvisation. Through his love of storyteller and wordplay his lyricism signals to the deep currents of our shared humanity that channel beneath the surface of our unique life experiences.
